Add doxygen source files
The original source files distributed over the directories that contain the source code, but have been moved to an extra subdirectory for a cleaner directory layout. The doxyfile has been updated accordingly. The doxygen configuration also tries to build a compressed HTML (.chm) file, but this requires a help compiler to be installed. The pure HTML documentation is generated anyway.

/*! \page doxypage_c_mbgdevio Meinberg Device I/O (MbgDevIo) (C)
 This page describes the C libraries and sample code that can
 be used to access Meinberg computer peripherals from user applications via the mbgdevio.dll.
 *

\section install_sec Step-by-step instructions for using the MbgDevIo API

\subsection step1 Step 1: Installing the driver package
Download and install the latest Windows driver from our homepage.<br>

http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/#win <br>

The driver is shipped with a DLL called <I>mbgdevio.dll</I> which can be used to access the board via this SDK.<br>
Install a Meinberg computer device and test it with the monitor program MbgMon (included in the Windows driver package) if it works as expected.

\subsection step2 Step 2: Compiling and testing the sample applications.

 \li Download and extract the SDK files into a temporary folder. <br>

 For <B>Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0:</B><BR>
 \li Open the developer workspace file <I>mbgdevio.dsw</I> which is located in <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\c\demo\mbgdevio\vc6"</B>.<BR>

 For <B>Microsoft Visual Studio 2005:</B><BR>
 \li Open the solution <I>mbgdevio.sln</I> which is located in <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\c\demo\mbgdevio\vs2005"</B>.<BR>

 For <B>Borland C++:</B><BR>
 \li Open the Borland project file <I>mbgdeviodemo.bpr</I> which is located in <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\c\demo\mbgdevio\bc"</B>.<BR>

The projects demonstrate the functionality of the most important API functions of the mbgdevio.dll.<BR><BR>

There are several demo projects available to show how the MbgSdk functions work. The main source files are:<BR><br>
\li mbgdevio_demo.c Example program to demonstrate the most important API calls as a general overview.
\li hrtime.c Example how to use the PCPS_HR_TIME (high resolution time) in detail.
\li xhrtime.c Example how to retrieve extrapolated high resolution time stamps with very high access rates.

\subsection step3 Step 3: Integrating the SDK files into a user application

 \li Download and extract the SDK files to a temporary folder.
 \li Add the directory <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\c\mbglib\include"</B> to the include search path of your user application.
 \li Add the correct <I>mbgdevio.lib</I> file to your project:<br>
 For Microsoft Visual Studio projects, you have to add <I>mbgdevio.lib</I>
 from the <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\mbglib\lib\msc"</B> directory, for Borland projects you have to use the version from <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\mbglib\lib\bc"</B>.<br>
 For compiling x64 targets with Visual Studio the <I>mbgdevio.lib</I> from the directory <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\mbglib\lib64\msc"</B> has to be added.<br>

\subsection step4 Step 4: Getting a handle to the radio clock

 Check the mbgdevio version first: <br><br>
\code
if ( mbgdevio_check_version( MBGDEVIO_VERSION ) != PCPS_SUCCESS )
{
 printf( "The MBGDEVIO DLL API version %X which is installed is not compatible\n"
 "with API version %X required by this program.\n",
 mbgdevio_get_version(),
 MBGDEVIO_VERSION
 );
 exit( 1 );
}
\endcode

Afterwards search for installed Meinberg devices:
\code
 devices_found = mbg_find_devices();

 if ( devices_found == 0 )
 {
 printf( "No radio clock found.\n" );
 return;
 }

 printf( "Found %i radio clock%s\n", devices_found, ( devices_found == 1 ) ? "" : "s" );
\endcode

If Meinberg devices were found ( device_count > 0 ) then get a handle to a specific device with mbg_open_device().
Afterwards you can retrieve a PCPS_DEV structure with device information by using mbg_get_device_info().
\code
 PCPS_DEV dev;
 MBG_DEV_HANDLE dh;
 int rc;

 // device_index 0 for the first
 // radio clock that was found on the system
 dh = mbg_open_device( 0 );

 if ( dh == MBG_INVALID_DEV_HANDLE )
 err_msg( "Unable to open device" );

 rc = mbg_get_device_info( dh, &dev );

 if ( rc == PCPS_SUCCESS )
 {
 printf( " %s at port %03Xh\n",
 _pcps_type_name( &dev ),
 _pcps_port_base( &dev, 0 )
 );
 }
 else
 err_msg( "Failed to read device info" );

\endcode

\subsection step5 Step 5: Accessing the device
After retrieving the <b>MBG_DEV_HANDLE</b> of a specific device, this handle can be used
for I/O accesses to the board. For example:

\code
 PCPS_HR_TIME hr_t;

 // Check whether the board supports PCPS_HR_TIME
 // dev is a PCPS_DEV structure returned by mbg_get_device_info()
 if ( _pcps_has_hr_time ( &dev ) )
 {
 // Reading the latency-compensated PCPS_HR_TIME from the board
 if ( PCPS_SUCCESS == mbg_get_hr_time_comp( dh, &hr_t, &latency ) )
 printf( "HR Time: %08lX.%08lX UTC%+ldsec, st: %04X, latency: %i hns\n",
 hr_t->tstamp.sec,
 hr_t->tstamp.frac,
 hr_t->utc_offs,
 hr_t->status,
 latency );
 }

 mbg_close_device( &dh );
\endcode

\section api_sec API structures and functions in detail

There are different data structures which can be read, and different API
functions to read particular information.

\subsection api_time Reading a standard time stamp

The function mbg_get_time() reads a structure called PCPS_TIME (see PCPS_TIME_s),
which contains human readable date and time, plus status information.
This structure can be read from all our PC plug-in boards.
However, the resolution is only 10 milliseconds.
Please note that under Windows, the resolution of the system time is
also only 10 ms (NT,2000) or 15 ms (XP). In case of Windows Vista and above, the
system time has a resolution of 1 ms.

This section refers to the sample mbgdevio_demo.c.

\subsection api_hr_time Reading a high resolution time stamp

Additionally, our GPS and IRIG receiver cards as well as newer DCF77 receivers
support another structure called PCPS_HR_TIME, high resolution time.

\copydoc group_hrt

Associated functions:
\li mbg_get_hr_time()
\li mbg_get_hr_time_cycles()
\li mbg_get_hr_time_comp()

This section refers to the sample hrtime.c and mbgdevio_demo.c.

\subsection api_mm Using memory mapped I/O

A way to avoid the restriction of the access limits the Memory Mapped I/O
feature can be used. Newer devices, e.g. the GPS170PEX, support this feature.
In this case the on-board microcontroller is not involved in providing the time stamps and
the period between two accesses can be dramatically decreased to a
couple of microseconds.

Associated functions:
\li mbg_get_fast_hr_timestamp_cycles()
\li mbg_get_fast_hr_timestamp_comp()

This section refers to the sample mbgdevio_demo.c.

\subsection api_xhrt Using extrapolated high resolution time stamps

\copydoc group_xhrt

This section refers to the sample xhrtime.c.

\subsection api_cap Using capture events

\copydoc check_user_captures()

This section refers to the function check_user_captures() in sample mbgdevio_demo.c.

\subsection api_gps Reading GPS receiver information.

GPS data like the GPS position, satellite status, mode of operation, etc. can be requested with the functions
mbg_get_gps_pos(), mbg_get_gps_stat_info(),mbg_get_gps_ant_info() and mbg_get_gps_receiver_info().
Additional information like \ref group_time_scale or UTC parameters can be read or set with newer versions
of our GPS cards by using the functions mbg_get_time_scale_info(), mbg_set_time_scale_settings(), mbg_get_utc_parm() and
mbg_set_utc_parm().

This section refers to the functions print_receiver_position(), print_sv_info(), print_utc_parameters() in sample mbgdevio_demo.c.

\subsection stepdph2 Step 2: Compiling and testing the demo program.

 \li Download and extract the SDK files to a temporary folder. <br>
 \li Open the main file <I><b>mbgdemo.dpr</b></I> which is located in <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\delphi\demo"</B>.<BR>

\subsection stepdph4 Step 4: Getting a handle to the radio clock

\code

 *
 The Meinberg Software Development Kit for Windows contains libraries and example code to access and control
 Meinberg devices such as GPS and DCF77 based radio clocks and IRIG receivers under different
 development environments.

 All Microsoft Windows versions from Windows NT and above are supported.

 Device types that can be accessed are either computer peripherals for the bus systems ISA/PCI/PCI-X/PCI-Express and USB
 as well as serial devices connected via RS232 (DS9) interface.

 \section concepts Concepts
 Meinberg devices can be accessed in two different ways:
 \li \subpage doxypage_mbgdevio "Meinberg Device I/O (MbgDevIO)": This API accesses the device directly via the mbgdevio.dll.<br>(Works with all Meinberg <b>non-serial</b> devices)
 \li \subpage doxypage_mbgsvcio "Meinberg Service I/O (MbgSvcIO)": This API checks the status of the time adjustment service and accesses the device indirectly
 via the mbgsvcio.dll and the time adjustment service mbgadjtm.exe<br>(Works with <b>all</b> Meinberg devices).

 General statement:<br>
 Meinberg assures full backward compatibility with all driver versions. Whenever a new feature is introduced then new API calls
 will be created and older API calls are left unchanged.
 So older applications should still work as expected even after a driver and DLL update.

 \li V 1.2.0:
 - API calls and documentation are based on Windows driver package v3.06.<br>
 - New API calls and sample code to read the raw IRIG time, the PTP state, PTP settings and LAN interface information
 \li V 1.1.0:
 - API calls and documentation are based on Windows driver package v3.04.<br>
 - Extended libaries and sample code to support different time scales, UTC parameters and IRIG control bits.
 \li V 1.0.0:
 - API calls and documentation are based on Windows driver package v3.03.

\subsection step2 Step 2: Compiling and testing the demo programs.

 \li Download and extract the SDK files into a temporary folder. <br>

 For <B>Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0:</B><BR>
 \li Open the developer workspace file <I>mbgdevio.dsw</I> which is located in <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\c\demo\mbgdevio\msc"</B>.<BR>
 \li The workspace contains subprojects that demonstrate a subset of the API functions depending on the purpose.<BR><BR>

 For <B>Borland C++:</B><BR>
 \li Open the Borland project file <I>mbgdeviodemo.bpr</I> which is located in <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\c\demo\mbgdevio\bc"</B>.<BR>
 \li This sample project demonstrates the functionality of the most important API functions.<BR><BR>

There are several demo projects available to show how the MbgSdk functions work. The main source files are:<BR><br>
\li mbgdevio_demo.c This is an example program that demonstrates the most important API calls.
\li hrtime.c This is an example how to use the PCPS_HR_TIME (high resolution time) in detail.

 For Microsoft Visual Studio projects, you have to add <I>mbgdevio.lib</I>
 from the <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\mbglib\lib\msc"</B> directory, for Borland projects you have to use the version from <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\mbglib\lib\bc"</B>.

\subsection step4 Step 4: Getting a handle to the radio clock

 Check the mbgdevio version first: <br><br>
\code
if ( mbgdevio_check_version( MBGDEVIO_VERSION ) != PCPS_SUCCESS )
{
 printf( "The MBGDEVIO DLL API version %X which is installed is not compatible\n"
 "with API version %X required by this program.\n",
 mbgdevio_get_version(),
 MBGDEVIO_VERSION
 );
 exit( 1 );
}
\endcode

Afterwards search for installed Meinberg devices:
\code
 devices_found = mbg_find_devices();

 if ( devices_found == 0 )
 {
 printf( "No radio clock found.\n" );
 return;
 }

 printf( "Found %i radio clock%s\n", devices_found, ( devices_found == 1 ) ? "" : "s" );
\endcode

If Meinberg devices were found ( device_count > 0 ) then get a handle to a specific device with mbg_open_device().
Afterwards you can retrieve a PCPS_DEV structure with device information by using mbg_get_deviec_info().
\code
 PCPS_DEV dev;
 MBG_DEV_HANDLE dh;
 int rc;

 // device_index 0 for the first
 // radio clock that was found on the system
 dh = mbg_open_device( 0 );

 if ( dh == MBG_INVALID_DEV_HANDLE )
 err_msg( "Unable to open device" );

 rc = mbg_get_device_info( dh, &dev );

 if ( rc == PCPS_SUCCESS )

 _pcps_port_base( &dev, 0 )
 );
 }
 else
 err_msg( "Failed to read device info" );

\endcode

\subsection step5 Step 5: Accessing the device
After retrieving the <b>MBG_DEV_HANDLE</b> of a specific device, this handle can be used with
several API calls to read from or write to the board. For example:

\code
 PCPS_HR_TIME hr_t;

 // Check whether the board supports PCPS_HR_TIME
 // dev is a PCPS_DEV structure returned by mbg_get_device_info()
 if ( _pcps_has_hr_time ( &dev ) )
 {
 // Reading the latency-compensated PCPS_HR_TIME from the board
 if ( PCPS_SUCCESS == mbg_get_hr_time_comp( dh, &hr_t, &latency ) )
 printf( "HR Time: %08lX.%08lX UTC%+ldsec, st: %04X, latency: %i hns\n",
 hr_t->tstamp.sec,
 hr_t->tstamp.frac,
 hr_t->utc_offs,
 hr_t->status,
 latency );
 }

 mbg_close_device( &dh );
\endcode

\section api_sec API structures and functions in detail

There are different data structures which can be read, and different API
functions to read particular information. The function mbg_get_time()
reads a structure called PCPS_TIME (see PCPS_TIME_s), which contains human readable date
and time, plus status information. This structure can be read from all
our PC plug-in boards. However, the resolution is only 10 milliseconds.
Please note that under Windows, the resolution of the system time is
also only 10 or 15 milliseconds.

Additionally, our GPS and IRIG receiver cards support another structure
called PCPS_HR_TIME, high resolution time. That structure is read using
the mbg_get_hr_time() call and contains the system time in seconds since
1970 (standard time_t format), the fractions of a second, plus status
and UTC offset.

The device driver checks whether a particular feature like HR time is
supported by a particular device and returns an error if it is not.
Also the latest driver software should be used since older
versions of the driver don't check for HR time support.

With our GPS cards, the effictive resolution of the HR time is better
than 1 microsecond. For the IRIG receivers, the resolution is 400
microseconds which is still much better than 10/15 milliseconds provided
by the Windows system clock.

To get most accuracy for time stamps, a program can read the PC's
performance counter, and then call mbg_get_time_cycles() which returns
the HR time plus the performance counter value which matches that HR
time stamp. The difference between the two performance counter values
can be used to compensate the program execution time delay.

The way to access the time on the board is to write a command to the
board's microcontroller which in turn makes the requested data available
 for reading. The advantage of this is that the interface is very
flexible, but the disadvantage is that the on-board microcontroller is
involved in any access to the board. In order to prevent applications
from overruning the on-board microcontroller by countinuous accesses to
the board the card has a limitation which limits the access rate to a
millisecond.

Applications that need to read a lot of timestamps within a
short time interval (i.e. several times per one millisecond) should use a
device with memory mapped access feature, such as our GPS card for PCI express bus, the GPS170PEX.
With this feature, the clock´s on-board microcontroller is not involved in a PCs read access of a timestamp.

/*! \page doxypage_vb6_mbgdevio Meinberg Device I/O (MbgDevIo) (VB6)
 This page describes libraries and sample code that can
 be used to access Meinberg computer peripherals from user applications via the mbgdevio.dll.
 *

\section install_sec Step-by-step instructions for using the MbgDevIo API

\subsection stepvb1 Step 1: Installing the driver package
Download and install the latest available Windows driver from our homepage.<br>

http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/#win <br>

The driver is shipped with the latest <I>mbgdevio.dll</I> which can be used to access the board via the SDK.<br>
Install a Meinberg computer device and test if it works correctly with the driver package.

\subsection stepvb2 Step 2: Compiling and testing the demo programs.

 \li Download and extract the SDK files to a temporary folder. <br>
 \li Open the developer workspace file <I><b>mbgdevio-demo-vb6.vbw</b></I> which is located in <B>"%INSTALL_ROOT%\vb6\demo\mbgdevio"</B>.<BR>
 \li The main form of the program is <b>mbgdevio-demo-vb6.frm</b>.

\subsection stepvb3 Step 3: Integrating the SDK files into a user application

 \li Download and extract the SDK files to a temporary folder.
 \li Add the module <B>"mbgdevio"</B> and the library file <I><b>mbgdevio-vb6.bas</b></I> to your VB6 project:<br>

\subsection stepvb4 Step 4: Getting a handle to the radio clock

\code
 Dim n As Integer ' number of devices found
 Dim h As Long ' device handle

 ' Find how how many devices are installed
 n = mbg_find_devices

 If n = 0 Then
 Me.InfoTextBox.Text = "No device found."
 Exit Sub
 End If

 ' Always use first device (index 0), even if more devices
 ' have been found
 h = mbg_open_device(0)

 ' -1 means INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE (Win API)
 If h = -1 Then
 Me.InfoTextBox.Text = "Unable to open device."
 Exit Sub
 End If

\endcode

\subsection stepvb5 Step 5: Accessing the device
After retrieving the handle <B>h</B> of a specific device, this handle can be used with
several API calls to read from or write to the board.<br>
For example:

\code
 Dim currTime As PCPS_TIME
 Dim rc As Long ' return code from API functions

 ' Read the current time and status
 rc = mbg_get_time(h, currTime)

 If rc <> 0 Then
 Me.InfoTextBox.Text = "Error accessing the device."
 GoTo done
 End If
\endcode

\section api_sec_vb API structures, definitions and exported functions for Visual Basic

Below you can find a subset of API structures and functions from the mbgdevio.dll that
are referenced for Visual Basic 6 as exported via the file <b>mbgdevio-vb6.bas</b>.<br>
However, the C/C++ API is more powerful. Please contact Meinberg support, if there
are functions missing for your application.

The documentations of the structures and functions below are taken from the C-API which were
automatically generated from the original C-Sources.
